Sir Bani Yas is the largest natural island in the region, located 170 km southwest of Abu Dhabi the capital. The wildlife reserve was established in 1977 by Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. In the last decades SBYI has been open to the public and different facilities and resorts are being launched to make it a tourism destination. 900 workers are working for Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) and staying in the conservation workers camp. In respect to the island’s nature and delicate ecosystem, Enerwhere has been contracted to provide power more efficiently with a solar-diesel generator hybrid of 2 MVA and 200 kWp of solar systems to reduce CO2 foot-print and maximize costs savings.
Marius Prinslow, Sir Bani Yas island manager at TDIC
“Sir Bani Yas Island identified the requirement to reduce our carbon footprint on the island and to implement alternative energy sources to achieve our goal. Enerwhere provided one such option for us, not only did the team design a system for us which allowed remote monitoring of our energy usage but they innovatively incorporated a solar energy source that assisted with the provision of alternative power to our diesel generators and thereby reducing the carbon emissions by over 1,300 tons over the first 8 months of operation. Through accurate measuring of our power consumption island operations gained much valued insight into current power requirements and are now in a position to accurately predict future usage on all operations where Enerwhere is providing the power”
